About Emmanuel Ajayi 's work:
Photo Theme:
Beyond the colours
Photo Story:
Ojude Oba is widely celebrated for its explosion of colour, fashion, and cultural pride. While most photographers focused on capturing the vibrant hues of the festival, I wanted to tell a different story—one that went beyond colour and focused on character.

This black-and-white portrait was captured candidly, without the subject's awareness. What drew me to the moment was the subject's undeniable presence: the confidence, precision, steeze, and cultural identity embodied in a single glance. By removing colour, I stripped the image down to its essence, allowing the viewer to focus on expression, texture, posture, and aura.

The photograph highlights a side of Ojude Oba that is often overlooked—not just the spectacle of the festival, but the personalities that bring it to life. It is a celebration of culture, individuality, and the timeless elegance that exists beyond the colours.
How long has Emmanuel Ajayi loved photography:
7 years
How they discovered their passion for photography:
My passion for photography began when I was around 19–20 years old. I have always been a creative person, drawn to visual storytelling and the beauty in everyday moments. What started as simple experimentation with a phone camera soon became a genuine interest in capturing people, emotions, and memories.

One of my earliest experiences was photographing members of my church during services and events. I was fascinated by the authentic emotions I could capture—moments of joy, reflection, worship, and connection. Seeing how a single photograph could preserve a feeling or tell a story inspired me to keep learning and improving my craft.

Over time, photography became more than just taking pictures; it became a way for me to document life, celebrate people, and create lasting memories. That curiosity and love for storytelling continue to drive my work today.
