I took this photo while taking an evening walk. The purpose behind these walks is to spend time with myself and be present within nature. This picture reflects that purpose by depicting the subject’s connection to nature. Additionally, it serves as an internal mirror — provoking the viewer to see themselves within the scene as well as encourage them to connect with nature.

How long has Ariel Nkanika loved photography:

I’ve loved photography for around 3 years now.

How they discovered their passion for photography:

I discovered my love for photography on the 5th of february; that was the day I got my first camera: a Nikon D7100. But later on, I realized that i had a passion for photography long before I got a camera. Since 2023, I had been taking nature-themed photos on my phone, oblivious to the fact that it would be the start of an incredible journey. Getting that Nikon, however, really changed everything for me. It transformed my mindset, my attitude, and my perspective on the world and towards what I can achieve. It made me awaken to my potential, not just as a photographer, but as a human being too.
