About BLESSING OLANIYI IWATAN's work:
Photo Theme:
The Stolen Future
Photo Story:
The recent killing that happened in Jos where a mother is seen holding her dead son.
But I added pregnancy to this concept.

This poem tells more story.
NOT WHAT WE WERE PROMISED.

The green is stained with a hue too deep,
While motherhood weeps, and a nation sleeps.

She’s wrapped in the shroud of a life unborn,
Clutching the wreckage where hope is torn.

Her firstborn’s light has been chased from sight,
Swallowed whole by the teeth of night.

The black she wears—a mantle of grief,
Heavy as night, offering no relief.

Once untouched, now burdened and spread,
Drinking the stain of the silenced dead.
Innocence spills, thick, stubborn, and red,
From the wounded earth where her boy now lies dead.
The child in her womb shifts, silent and slow,
As if it can feel what it’s fated to know.

She will not release him, she tightens her hold,
Though grief grows heavier, ruthless and cold.
Her cry breaks open the weight of the air,
A sharp, endless echo of splintered despair.
And people gather, yet no one is near,
Just a circle of silence, of helpless fear.

Behind her, the banner—Green, White, Green,
Fades into dust from this brutal scene.
Is it rising in hope, or bowing in shame,
As tomorrow is buried in insecurity’s name?
She clings to death while life fights to stay,
With nothing but sorrow to carry away.
How long has BLESSING OLANIYI IWATAN loved photography:
I've always loved photography right from little when those days photographers would say "look into the tiny bird and smile" though I never once saw the bird.

Though I've been practicing photography since Five years ago.
How they discovered their passion for photography:
I discovered I had passion for photography five years ago, when I discovered photography is no longer about looking at the tiny bird, but a medium to freeze the moment and tell the stories words can't Express.
