About Oluwatobiloba Bankole-Ladipo 's work:
Photo Theme:
Twilight: A Light in Solitude
Photo Story:
It was during a long weekend that I realized how beautiful the sky looked. Then, I saw the street lights. Usually, I would ignore them, but something clicked in me. I just had to capture this moment — it was too special to let go. It was a weird form of cathartic bliss that came over me to once I took it. I went around taking as many shots as I could, and I decided to write a poem to it. You can see my poem on my Instagram page. Regardless, it was an expression of a feeling of loneliness that was part of me then. Looking back, I'm glad I took this picture because it is a reminder of the perseverance of light— even if it's dying.
How long has Oluwatobiloba Bankole-Ladipo loved photography:
I would say for a year. This is because I asked for a camera on my seventeenth birthday, though I had a love for cameras since I am a cinephile. I'm still learning, trying out various kinds of photography and getting inspiration from fellow photographers in Lagos and on Instagram. Their works truly inspire me to get more into this new hobby turned passion of mine.
How they discovered their passion for photography:
When I turned 17, I was looking for an outlet; a way to freely express myself. I found that in photography, and I haven't looked back since. I would take photo daily both at home in Abuja and during school in Lagos. It was a way to unwind after classes, and it gave me a reason to connect with others more. It also boosted my confidence in what I could do. I'm also lucky to have the resources and inspiration to independently learn various cinematic techniques, editing software and shooting techniques just to get better at my craft.
